Text Box: Pastor’s Thoughts

One of the most common schools of thought for the New Year is reflection and goal setting. My concern is that we think once a year is adequate to discover the hidden issues within our heart.

On the highway of life, we all need to take some breaks. Just stop and have a cup of coffee or hot chocolate without all the invasive noise of electronics. It is when we welcome this pause we take time to reflect on our personal journey, time to appreciate what we have, time to evaluate ourselves, and time to plan for the unknown that lies ahead. The break of which I speak isn’t spent organizing, searching for solutions to problems, nor is it consumed with worrying over failure or loss. If and when experienced these breaks can provides much needed rest, renewal, and the result is very refreshing.

Believers can overcome many struggles and fears if they simply take a break. Hear the word of the Psalmist 116:6-9: The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me. 7 Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee. 8 For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. 9 I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.

I enjoy discussing things with my wife, family and friends. I love to spend time praying, talking to my Heavenly Father and listening to His word and Spirit so He can direct my journey. There are times however, times where I just need to be still and quiet, without an agenda. You can call it, “me time” if you want.

Business as usual so occupies our lives we are running from one thing to another without even considering if what we are running after has any real value or benefit. So take a break, have a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and spend a little time with yourself. You may find you like the company.
