December 2019
Text Box: Pastor’s Thoughts
I know I should be thinking about Christmas for this monthly news letter but I’m not in that mode yet. Not that I don’t appreciate God’s gift to the world and what Jesus means to me, just the subject of Christmas isn’t on my heart. So instead let me remind you of a wonderful reality concerning the month of December.
We are quickly approaching the end of another year. If we are honest we all have had some wasted days, missed opportunities, and a few challenging experiences over the last eleven months. Now it is a fact that we can’t relive the past so all we can do is become more aware of the value of each passing day. Now here is the good news.
December has thirty one days in which we have a chance to live without a single regret. Now I realize you may not read this until a couple of days are in the realm of history but none the less you have an opportunity to end 2019 well. One suggestion I would make is begin each day in December with the right attitude and commitment to the Lord. Ps 118:24 sets the goal, This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
That commitment being made now how about just taking a few minutes to acknowledge our need for the Holy Spirit’s influence to be both recognized and relied upon when we handle each event and difficulty? If recognized, the Spirit of Christ can and will inspire us and provide everything we need pertaining to godliness.
Jesus, after admonishing us to make Kingdom life our highest priority, shares a blessed thought in Matt 6:34, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Do you get that, you don’t have to worry about tomorrow’s troubles if you allow God to inspire your today.
Let’s live each day in December with Christ on the thrown of our hearts and undoubtedly love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, and faith along with the rest of the Spirit’s fruit, will abounding in our lives. Isn’t that a productive and blessed way to live? We can all live that way, one day at a time!
