Text Box: Pastor’s Thoughts
I begin “Pastor’s Thoughts” today with one of the amazing complex wonders of my Heavenly Father. My unchanging God has placed me in an ever changing environment. I live in a world that is persistently inconsistent. The events of every new day are utterly unpredictable. Unexpected issues poor into my life changing my plans and at times interfering with long term goals. Now here is the thing, I know how great my God is and that he knows what is best, so why must I face such unpredictability?
My thoughts have directed me to James 4:13-15 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
Here is the thing that stands out in that passage, “FOR WHAT IS YOUR LIFE?” Wow, talk about a thought provoking question, God’s word is asking me a question which is as deep and probing as any question I have ever been confronted. James reduces my existence to a morning mist that melts with the rising of the sun. Is that all I am, a vapor? Wait, did I miss something in this passage? Oh yes, there it is, “If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” There is the compass, there is my point of reference, and there is the one consistent element in this mixed up mass of confusion called life. The one who “changes not” offers guidance in and through every unpredictable event in which I encounter.
He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He has promised to lead me to Father. My responsibility is not making plans or trying to control my environment it is simply holding His unchanging hand. I then can face each new day with a confident assurance knowing if the way gets too difficult to navigate on my own, Jesus will carry me. If today’s obstacles overwhelm, He provided grace, strength or simply removes them one by one. I have trusted, am trusting, and will continue to trust that He will lead me. I choose to follow my unchanging Lord!
