Text Box: Pastor’s Thoughts

As the thoughts of spring fill my mind I excitedly wait for the warmer days that will transform the dead of winter into a colorful season of new life. Who doesn’t want winter to come to an end? Even you snow lovers have to admit you are looking forward to a change. I personally want to store away my snow shovels and crank up the lawn mower. It won’t be long until the dandelions and daffodils along with the return of the robins will signal that the wonderful change is taking place. Seeds that fell from last year’s plants will soon sprout, bursting forth with new life and a new generation that keeps the lifecycle alive and well.

That imagery gives me another hope within my heart. I am looking for a similar transformation within the life of the church. The church has experienced a spiritual winter, a time of cold and lifeless growth for several decades. We have watched our congregations’ age and so many now have health issues that confine them to their homes or who have already made the journey into Heaven. They have been faithful to their Savior, supportive of their congregation, and persistent in their witness to their families. The cold winds of our culture have blown long enough, the hardness of the winter freeze has held back the seed they’ve planted, and the chill of indifference to the things of God in the hearts of our children and grand children are about to be replaced as the warmth of the Son shining in his brightness.

I refuse to believe that winter is going to last forever. I cling to the hope in the powerful life changing grace of my Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit’s convicting power has not been quenched. The blood of Jesus has not lost its power to cleanse the guilty soul. Our heavenly Father has not quit hearing the pleas of mothers and fathers for their children’s salvation.

As sure as the March winds blow, and the April showers fall, spring is on the horizon. Don’t lose hope, don’t give up, give in or give out. Hold on child of God, the seeds you have planted are about to reproduce. I don’t know about you, but I feel a warming taking place already. Keep watching, it is going to happen soon, spring’s revival is coming!
