Point of View

One enterprising man asked the Lord, "Lord, how long is a million years to you?"
The Lord replied, "To me, a million years is like a second."
The man asked, "Lord, how much is a million dollars to you?"
The Lord said, "To me, a million dollars is like a penny."
The man asked, "Lord, may I have a penny?"
The Lord answered, "Sure, just a second."

I suppose we all have our own point of view on every issue under the sun. Most of the time that isn’t a problem but at times it can be. Here is the thing; our point of view is determined by a vast number of factors. There is up-bringing, our own personal experience, our personal preferences and values just to name a few factors.

To complicate matters add in the Christian/Non Christian issue. All Christians have personal convictions based on their knowledge of and experience with Jesus Christ. Christian convictions therefore relate to one’s background and personal knowledge of God’s Word. No two Christians are at the same point in their Spiritual development. That means that every Christian has distinct and individual convictions about God and His Word. So guess what? Christians all have their own point of view! Yet Christians have a common and unique source that connects them together, Jesus!

It is the knowledge that Jesus loves each of us and sacrificed Himself for our salvation which enables believers to agree to disagree without being disagreeable. I call it respecting other believer’s convictions. It is not a matter of accepting or rejecting the way in which other believers behave, but a choice to allow God to work within each of us to reveal His point of view. I think it is more important for that my point of view is in harmony with God’s. So I will take that penny Lord when you think I need it!
