Text Box: Pastor’s Thoughts
Build on!

Having finished the remodel of our narthex I have a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. The investment of time and effort are rewarded with tangible and immediate results. That in and of itself produces joy but knowing that the labor is over, that my aging body can recoup is the icing on the cake.

There is a problem with labor done with hands. Wear and tear will eventually mar the detailed work. The new appreciation fades with familiarity. Then there is the reality that one day all labor done with our hands will one day come to naught.

What of labors of the heart? Working in God’s Kingdom is so different than Earthly labor. Kingdom work goes unnoticed. In Matthew 25 Jesus exposes this truth in the story of the sheep and goats. He spoke of those expressing love and care toward others weren’t aware that their efforts were perceived as ministry toward Jesus. Heart labor seldom produces a tangible result; it is comparable to sowing seed. You place the seed beneath the soil, out of site, and in time it takes root and works its way to the surface. It may be that the planters will never see the result of their sowing in this lifetime. However labor of the heart will result in reward.

Jesus said when you have done it to the least of these my brethren you have done it unto me. Even a drink of water given in the name of a disciple shall not lose its reward, said Jesus. (Matt 10:42) Paul adds this thought in 1 Cor. 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Heart labor will never fade in value, it will never go unnoticed by the Lord and its reward will last forever. I close this thought with a passage in Hebrews 6:10 “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in, that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”
