Pastor's Thoughts

2 Cor 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Paul's answer was probably not what he desired but it was what he needed.

It is so reassuring to be reminded of the sufficiency of the Lord's grace for it is by divine grace that we find our way through this trouble filled world. That truth coupled with the assurance of God's perfect timing work in harmony to create the melody for the lyrics of God's unfailing promises. The result, God's song, the Master's Peace that is able to calm our hearts no matter how intense the storm.

I love the story told by author Corrie ten Boom about wisdom passed on to her by her father. Corrie-the-child once worried out loud, "Daddy, I don't think I could suffer or be a martyr for Jesus Christ. My faith is not strong enough."

Her father patiently answered, "Corrie, when you go by train from Haarlem to Amsterdam, when do I give you the train ticket? Several days before?"

"No Daddy, the day I go to travel."

"And so it is with God. Now you do not need the grace to suffer, but if the moment comes when you need it. He will give you the grace. He will give you the train ticket right on time."

I'm confident that Carrie remembered her daddy's words when she found herself imprisoned in that Nazi concentration camp during World War II. I imagine that recollection came about the same time that God's amazing grace filled her heart with the peace that passes understanding.

May I remind you of the words of our Savior? Matt 6:33-34 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
