Pastor’s Thoughts
The Parable of the Nail.
A certain man put his house on the market and encountered a great deal of difficulty getting any interested party to come close to his asking price. Weeks and weeks past and being unwilling to compromise the seller decided he would try a different approach. Having had a potential buyer come and view the property and offer half of the selling price the seller make a strange counter offer. He agreed to sell the home for half of his asking price with one stipulation: he could retain ownership and a lifetime access to just one nail above the front door of the house. The buyer quickly agreed, the deeds were drafted, and the deal soon closed.
Several years passed before the original owner retired and wanted to move back to his old neighborhood, however the new owner of his old home refused to sell the house back to the old man. A few days later the home owner opened his front door and found a dead opossum hanging from a particular nail with a post-it note stuck to its nose. The note simply stated, “Don’t remove this carcass from my property.” It only took a few days for the original owner to move back into his old home.
The story is a reminder of how the devil works. He loves to find folks who will simply leave him a single nail and a right-of-way to their heart. It may be that one little uncommitted area of our heart to Jesus will not affect our spiritual life for years. It will go unnoticed, can be hidden from family and friends, and possibly even forgotten; but know this, the devil is not in a hurry to hinder or even destroy your relationship with God. We sing, “Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe” that being true assures us that the devil has no claim on our lives what so ever, not even a single nail. So let’s all check the deed to our hearts and make sure it totally belongs to Jesus.
