Pastor’s Thoughts

It is such a joy to be a part of the family of God. We have God as our Heavenly Father watching over us with his tender compassion. Jesus is our intercessor providing access to Heaven’s inexhaustible supply of enabling grace. Then there is the Holy Spirit, our abiding comforter and guide; He dwells within our hearts bringing both assurance and providing power to live a holy life. These relationships are reason enough to rejoice in being counted worthy of our holy adoption.

There is yet another tremendous blessing that I have found in being born into God’s eternal family. Unlike the intangible but none the less real relationships we have with our triune God, we are spiritually united to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Jesus brings us into a loving committed relationship to all others who have come the way of the cross. The Church of God Reformation Movement has always stood in opposition to the division of God’s people into denominations. In John 17 Jesus prayed that all of those in whom the Father had given Him be one. He prayed they would all be kept in the Father’s name, thus “Church of God” is the only Biblical name for the church. Not the “First Church of God”, nor was it to be the “Community Church of God”, simply the Church of God.

Allow me to clarify the Movement’s position on those who belong to a particular Denomination. All Christians who have been born into God’s family and are living in a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ are a part of His church regardless of their ties to religious organization. Membership or association with religious organizations doesn’t affect your membership in God’s church either way, it does not make you a member nor does it keep you from being a true member of the Church of God. Membership is based solely on ones relationship to Jesus Christ. Acts 2:47 tells us that Jesus alone is the one that adds members to His church. He is the one with access and authority to write one’s name in the Lamb’s book of life and He is also the only one who can blot one’s name out of that book as well. The Word of God asks us to live in unity and tells us that love is the true sign that we are his disciples. My thought is why don’t we simply obey God’s Word?
