Pastor’s Thoughts
The Bible describes many of the sights and sounds that will take place at the last day. The warning was given by Jesus time and time again to watch and be prepared for that day, and he tells us that the hour of his coming would catch the world unexpectedly. Those who are unprepared, all the unbelieving, along with those who refuse to repent of sin; will experience the full wrath of God as they encounter the everlasting storm that comes with God’s judgment.
Today, January 26th, there is a huge winter storm forecast for New England. I watched the news yesterday as the governor of New York issued warnings to those in his state concerning the intensity and severity of the approaching storm. He admonished neighbors to check on one another to assure safety and that needs might be met in case of emergency.
I watched and listened to the fear, concern, and apprehension of a storm that will come and go in a few days. I wondered how many would ignore the forecast and act as though nothing was really going to happen. I thought within myself how many will set around the bar rooms and make light of the facts of nature, mock the meteorologist, and criticize the governor for his unwarranted alarm of the state’s citizens? Then again what percentage of the folks living in NY will ignore those warnings all together?
For centuries Christians have shared the message of Christ including the forecast of the Lord’s coming to judge the world. He came the first time to offer us life, peace, love and salvation. He opened a door of opportunity to be saved from the wrath of God, the punishment for sin, and the eternal consequences of separation from His grace. But so many remain unprepared, they ignore the warnings, and my fear is, in the end they will be forever subjected to the dark horrifying storm of God’s wrath.
Dear church family, can we do more to let them know what is approaching? Will we embrace the gravity of situation and intensify our labor of love toward those who care not, those who refuse to listen, and those who are neglecting so great salvation. Remember, once the storms hits, it will be forever too late for the unprepared. God help us, to help them to be prepared!
