Pastor’s
Thoughts
Christmas has forever changed the
month of December. Imagine what this month would be like if we simply left
Christmas off of the agenda for this season. In a word, I’d say “boring”. The
celebration of the birth of Christ disrupts the onset of the cold, barren, dead
of winter with sounds of Christmas carols, the beauty of multicolored lights,
evergreen trees decorated and demanding that we shop until we drop. Families
who otherwise seldom get to gather make there plans for a feast, needy folks
suddenly come to mind, and generosity is pushed from the realms of obscurity
into the limelight. I love Christmas!
Christmas has a way of bringing out
smiles on the face of children. They get caught up in the traditions of the
holiday and if you are around them very long you will find your mind strolling
down memory lane, reminiscing of the times when you couldn’t get to sleep on
Christmas Eve wondering what you would find under the tree the next morning. I
love Christmas!
There is a special atmosphere that
settles into a church family too. Expressions of love are placed in Christmas
cards. Extra effort is given by choir members, children workers, decorators,
and special services demand more people step up and become active for the Lord.
Giving to others become more of a priority. But most important of all, Jesus
becomes the center of attention. Sermons of His birth remind us of God’s love,
the shepherds remind us of Christ glory, and Mary reminds us of the miracle
that God is with us. It is a season of hope, and as the angles proclaimed, of
peace and goodwill toward all people. I love Christmas.
What would December be like if God
had not sent His Son? I am so glad I don’t have to go there. So you better
watch out, you better not pout, because your Pastor is going to remind you that
it is celebrations time, a Savior has been born, life is good because Jesus is
life and God is good. Let the joy of the world, Jesus Christ, fill your souls
with love and joy throughout the Christmas Season!
Merry
Christmas,
Pastor
