“Pastor’s Thoughts”
Josh 24:14-15 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
This passage calls God’s people to make a choice. The decision means we must choose between living in a worldly fashion or doing things in a Godly way. It makes it clear you can’t straddle the fence, you can’t ride the seesaw of first one and then the other, you can’t serve God and the gods of this world at the same time. Choose, that is issue that so many Christians and congregations want to avoid or feel is unnecessary. God’s people must be committed to doing what God ask of them or they are in fact separating themselves form the Lord.
Just a few years ago there was a fad that many embraced of wearing a bracelet with the letters W W J D woven into the fabric. The letters representing the thought “what would Jesus do” The fad temporarily revived, to a certain extent, the concept that the Lord should be considered in every choice a Christian makes. That is certainly a Biblical concept for Paul pinned these words writing to the Corinthians’, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of “God. (1 Cor 10:31)
Why would we as a church or as an individual consider participating in things that are morally or ethically questionable simply because the world sees nothing wrong with them? God’s people answer to God, not worldly flesh driven human approved behavior. We must choose and the right choice has always been serving the Lord. His Word is an absolute authority, His Spirit will lead us to obey, and His love inspires us to serve Him with our whole heart.
I hope we make a choice, and I pray it is always the right one, to serve the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength.
In obedience,
Pastor Danny
